Ryan Hannan
His Story
Dr. Hannan received his PharmD and MBA at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He completed his PGY-1 residency at Aurora Health Care Metro, Inc. and will complete his PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership Residency in 2020.
Facility
Advocate Aurora Health is an integrated health system with 28 hospitals, over 500 clinics, and 70 retail pharmacies.
Recent Significant Projects
As a PGY-2 HSPAL resident, Ryan has led projects with many of the pharmacy department's senior leaders, including development of the pharmacy services strategic plan and implementation of a business intelligence-driven metrics dashboard for pharmacy leadership. He is also a leader in the Practice Advancement Leadership Team (PALT) through the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, where he has led the design of continuing education modules for pharmacy technicians.
Initial Involvement in ASHP
Currently, Ryan is on the Section Advisory Group for Value, Quality, and Compliance, where he will be facilitating a webinar on data management within pharmacy. He also volunteers as a CV reviewer, and enjoys attending Midyear and the ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
Ryan became involved in ASHP to play an active role in the advancement of the pharmacy profession and to collaborate with pharmacy leaders across the world.
Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area
ASHP is the best way to jump start professional involvement and be on the forefront of pharmacy practice. By getting involved early, more opportunities will come. The pharmacy profession moves forward as a result of the passion and work dedicated pharmacists have for taking care of patients.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
ASHP is an organization that has more opportunities for involvement and advancement than any one practitioner could take advantage of. Whether a member is looking for networking, professional education, professional advancement, or otherwise, there are ways for everyone to be actively involved. Not only are there ways to contribute to the profession, but ASHP also gives back to its members through being an information conduit with professional updates, wellness and resilience strategies, and numerous conferences to reinvigorate a passion for the pharmacy profession.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP provides countless opportunities for pharmacists to drive their profession forward, capturing many practitioners as early as during pharmacy school. By facilitating residency programs, ASHP ensures that high quality pharmacists are being trained, as well as growing the next generation of pharmacy leaders.
