Cedarville University School of Pharmacy
Project Description:
In collaboration with regional (DASHP) and state (OSHP) affiliate chapters, Cedarville University School of Pharmacy SSHP hosts annual networking dinner. The event began with an hour of exposition by pharmaceutical representatives, allowing students and pharmacists to meet pharmaceutical representatives. Afterwards, pharmacists and students moved to the dining room to continue networking. With a proportional ratio of pharmacists-to students, attendees were assigned to round tables to engage in conversation. Dr. Ryan Bolus, a Compliance Specialist with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy since 2017, delivered an excellent presentation on Pharmacy Law Update 2022 to the attendees. He not only educated on updated laws, but also introduced future legislation that may impact pharmacy practice, which hit on several primary domains of ASHP’s PAI 2030. Our SSHP members were able provide networking opportunity for a total of 95 people. There was a total of 55 students, 40 pharmacists, and 7 pharmaceutical representatives. Through this event, Cedarville University pharmacy students and Ohio pharmacists were able to make numerous professional connections. Pharmacists received important law CE credit, pharmaceutical representatives promoted their companies and products, and students had professional networking opportunities and exposure to professional organizations. The atmosphere of professionalism was widely recognized by the attendees and the speaker. We have fostered existing relationships, and new relationships were established through planning. Both pharmacists and pharmaceutical representatives showed appreciation for organizing the successful event.

Collaborating with State Affiliates
How did your SSHP Chapter promote the project?
We contacted local hospitals and community pharmacy to promote pharmacists' participation. We advertised by placing posters in the school building, posting on weekly school's event list, sending email to members, as well as a class announcement for 2 weeks prior to the event.
Did you include outside guest to complete this event?
We contacted Ohio State Board of Pharmacy to have guest speakers to discuss about Ohio Pharmacy law updates. Seven pharmaceutical representatives came to promote their companies and products. This helped to fund our networking dinner.
Did you collaborate with any other organizations or your State Affiliate?
We worked closely with our regional affiliate, Dayton-Area SHP (DASHP). We also connected with State affiliate OSHP to engage pharmacists participation and connect with CPE consultant to make sure CE credit for the pharmacists are approved.
What advice do you have for other SSHP's?
- Collaborate with your regional or state chapter to invite and involve pharmacists from your area by creating opportunities for pharmacists to earn CE credit from attending.
- Utilize faculty relationships with pharmaceutical representatives, and your regional chapter, to fund catering and other expenses.
- Acquire a speaker qualified to deliver a live CE presentation to pharmacists, acquire proper approval for offering CE credit, and provide necessary materials months in advance for pharmacists to claim credit.
- Secure an adequate separate room for networking.
