Howard University College of Pharmacy
Project Description
Our SSHP chapter organized an ASHP Mini Midyear, and this was done in collaboration with residency programs across the country and brought all these programs together to present and showcase their residency programs. This collaborative approach would help our students and other students in the area who could not attend the ASHP Midyear meeting. We also invited multiple fellowship programs to showcase the structure of their programs, and we helped arrange interviews and share contact information between candidates and programs. This event was done in collaboration with the Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO), Student National Pharmacists Association (SNPhA), Kappa Epsilon, and Kappa Psi.
Describe how your chapter planned the event?
This project was mainly led by the Vice President (VP) of our Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists Chapter at Howard University College of Pharmacy. The SSHP VP was the team leader and collaborated with the student organizations’ leaders. The SSHP VP was responsible for planning the communication between our chapter and participating programs. Under normal circumstances, this event is held in person. However, this event was held virtually for the last year due to the pandemic. We organized separate breakout rooms for Personal Placement Services (PPS) and others dedicated to the showcase information. We also planned mock interviews that our faculty conducted for these interested students.
How did your SSHP Chapter promote the project?
We promoted our event using emails and posting flyers in the College.
When was the event held?
This was done in November over about 4 hours.
