ASHP Policy Position 0326

ASHP STATEMENT ON THE ROLE OF HEALTH-SYSTEM PHARMACISTS IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Status: Current

To approve the ASHP Statement on the Role of Health-System Pharmacists in Emergency Preparedness.

This policy position supersedes ASHP policy position 9904.

Rationale

The Council reviewed the Draft ASHP Statement on the Role of Health-System Pharmacists in Emergency Preparedness. The House of Delegates in 2002 approved the ASHP Statement on the Role of Health-System Pharmacists in Emergency Preparedness. The Statement focused almost exclusively on bioterrorism, but the House had amended the title. The Statement has been revised to better reflect the broader topic of emergency preparedness. The Council reviewed the revision and recommended that the document be further revised to place greater emphasis on the role of pharmacists outside the institutional setting and to expand the focus on volunteerism. Staff will use the Council’s input to prepare a revised draft for the Council’s review and approval.
