Reasons for selecting pharmacy:
Pharmacy was not my first career choice or even a consideration during my undergraduate years. My decision to pursue pharmacy stemmed from two main factors: helping my wife during her pharmacology course in nursing school and my drive to take the initiative. Four years after that decision, I am one step closer to being the first in my family to become a Doctor of Pharmacy. With this honor, I hope to inspire the upcoming generation in my family and my children.
Professional Interests:
My goal after pharmacy school is to become an essential part of a clinical team. My wife shared stories of her hospital rounds and mentioned that the pharmacist takes part in them. I thought to myself, “Whoa, a pharmacist is involved in patient care too?” I love this kind of collaborative teamwork that draws on every aspect of the profession to find the best solution. It is very similar to my role in the military, which is why I am naturally drawn to this kind of teamwork. I hope to emulate this teamwork with the ASHP PSF Executive Committee.
Interest in the PSF Executive Committee:
Leadership and inspiration. These have been my bread and butter throughout pharmacy school. I chose to take the initiative to lead in hopes of inspiring my fellow peers to do the same. This idea of taking the lead has been instilled in and amplified by the military. Being part of the PSF Executive Committee will give me the opportunity to share my experiences and encourage the upcoming student pharmacists to take the lead.
How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
The organization has given me the opportunity to expand my pharmacy network and enhance my interprofessional skills. My professional network was previously restricted to my college and workplace. Once I tapped into ASHP resources and became more involved, my network expanded immensely! I developed more professional relationships, produced projects that were shared nationally, accessed countless tools offered to students, and much more. All in all, being a member of ASHP has prepared me to become the best pharmacist I can be.
Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:
I have one main goal as a PSFEC member: to create a lasting impression on student pharmacists. Whether it is leading by example or talking one-on-one with someone, I want to be a small part of their professional journey. If I can leave a mark where the person can recall it and thank me for my contribution, I will have done my part in contributing to their career and inspiring others to do the same.
Fun Fact:
I deadlifted 500 lbs, bench pressed 300 lbs, and squatted 405 lbs at a bodyweight of 165 lbs. This makes me part of the 1000 lbs exclusive club! I am also a wristwatch enthusiast, and my favorite watch I own is the Omega Seamaster “No Time To Die” 007 edition.
