Reasons for selecting pharmacy:
Since I was eighteen, I have been a pharmacy technician working on the front line with patients from diverse backgrounds. In those years of working, I loved the connection I made with my patients at the pharmacy. But I also saw firsthand that pharmacists are medically trained front-line providers. Patients, especially at the beginning of the pandemic, relied on pharmacists and pharmacy staff for medical guidance when they were unsure of the status of the world. I then had the privilege of exploring the many areas of pharmacy prior to attending pharmacy school, and I was blown away by the autonomy and potential that we have. We bring a new perspective to the medical team, and I want to be a part of that sight. This all solidified my decision to become a pharmacist, and I have not looked back since!
Professional Interests:
Although subject to change, my current professional interests include health-system pharmacy administration and leadership, critical care, and oncology. After graduation and residency, I hope to practice clinically before moving into an administrative role.
Interest in the PSF Executive Committee:
I decided to join the PSF Executive Committee based on my experience in the PSF Student Society Development Advisory Group (SSDAG) as the vice chair in the 2024-2025 academic year. I resonated with students’ passion for leading student chapters to success. The PSF SSDAG was a unique way of collaborating nationally with other students. I am honored to continue my involvement with the PSF and am looking forward to another successful year!
How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
As a student, ASHP stood out among other orgs because it has a lasting impact on student success throughout all years in pharmacy school. When I found out that ASHP offered free membership to first-year students, I felt that they really fostered newly admitted students in navigating this profession for the first time. I also found many different resources to be helpful to my professional development, which worked to my advantage.
Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:
Collaborate with the new practitioner’s forum to target final-year students’ success. Create unique deliverables that are new to the PSF. Getting to know everybody in the advisory group!
Fun Fact:
I do stand-up pharmacy comedies occasionally! I also love playing poker, which I've been doing since I was a kid, and I'm getting back into it with the hope of playing professionally one day (although I never gamble).
