This podcast will cover basic definitions of emotional intelligence and its importance in a role of pharmacy leadership. The speakers will reflect on their own experiences building emotional intelligence while developing relationships with colleagues as new practitioners and how it helps augment successful crucial conversations. Lastly, the speakers will provide practical advice and resources for new practitioners to learn more about this topic.
SPEAKERS
 Niha Zafar completed both her  undergraduate studies and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Houston in  Houston, Texas. She is in her first year of the PGY1/PGY2 Health-System  Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency program at Houston Methodist Hospital  and will concurrently earn her Master of Science in Pharmacy Administration and  Leadership from the University of Houston. In addition, Niha is actively  involved with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists New  Practitioners Forum, Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and Gulf Coast  Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Her current professional interests  include inpatient pharmacy operations, medication safety, clinical management,  and pharmacy leadership.

 Nathan Hanson is the Division  Director of Pharmacy Operations for the HealthTrust Purchasing Group. In this  role, Nathan serves the HCA MidAmerica Division, which encompasses 11 hospitals  located in Kansas, Missouri and Louisiana. His primary responsibility in this  role is to support the Directors of Pharmacy in the areas of controlled  substance management, sterile compounding, Joint Commission readiness, pharmacy  distribution, and leadership development. Nathan is actively involved with the ASHP  Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers, the Kansas Council of Health System  Pharmacy Public Affairs Committee, the Missouri Society of Health System  Pharmacists Public Policy Committee, and the Missouri Hospital Association, and  he serves on the Missouri Board of Pharmacy Hospital Advisory Committee. He  enjoys data analysis, performance improvement, and any activity where rules and  data intersect with people and processes. He is passionate about serving  leaders so that they can reach their full potential. Nathan holds a Doctor of  Pharmacy Degree from Drake University, and a Master’s degree in pharmacy  administration from the University of Kansas. He completed his Health System  Pharmacy Administration PGY1/PGY2 residency at The University of Kansas Health  System and is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
