This podcast episode reviews the ISMP Targeted Medication Safety Best Practices for Hospitals #2 on oral methotrexate safeguards. Speakers will discuss one institution’s experiences with assuring that dosing is accurate in electronic systems when medication orders are entered and providing specific patient and/or family education for all oral methotrexate discharge orders.

Nicholas Crites, Pharm.D., is currently Medication Safety Pharmacist Specialist at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE. After graduating pharmacy school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he completed a PGY1 at Nebraska Medicine. Following residency training and before transitioning into his current role, Nicholas practiced as a clinical pharmacist in internal medicine and surgical services. He has been a member of the ASHP Medication Safety Section Advisory Group since 2020.
Stacie Ethington MSN, RN-BC is the Medication Safety Nurse Specialist at Nebraska Medicine. During her time at Nebraska Medicine she has provided care to cardiac patients and has served as a nurse educator. For the last five years she had been dedicated to medication safety and has led initiatives such as conversion to ENFit and implementation of IV pump interoperability. Other responsibilities include monitoring for safety trends and preparing the organization for implementation of best practices.
