March 2025
Dear Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you well. The pharmacy profession continues to evolve, with increasing opportunities to expand our clinical impact, advocate for our profession, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration. From addressing workforce challenges to advancing patient care initiatives, our collective efforts are more important than ever. As we navigate ongoing changes in healthcare and pharmacy practice, I would like to share some updates and highlight ways you can have an impact:
First, take care of yourself! Think of the last time that you flew on a plane. During the safety demonstration, the flight crew always instructs you to put your oxygen mask on before helping others. It’s no different in your life at home and at work. ASHP provides various tools to support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and healthcare workers in managing stress, preventing burnout, and maintaining well-being. You can find those tools and resources here: ASHP Wellbeing Resources.
Now is the Time to Get Involved!
Have you ever wanted to make a difference? Want to jump in, stand out, and make an impact? Consider getting involved in advisory groups within the section. Our section advisory groups and committees develop webinars, podcasts, web-based resources and more! See the link here for more information and to submit your name: Get Involved in the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists.
Join Us at the Pharmacy Futures Meeting and Engage in Policy Making.
The ASHP Pharmacy Futures meeting is where innovation, leadership, and the future of pharmacy come together. This premier event brings together pharmacy professionals from across the country to explore emerging trends, cutting-edge research, and transformative solutions shaping the profession. From expert-led discussions on healthcare policy and workforce resilience to hands-on sessions on digital health and clinical advancements, Pharmacy Futures is designed to empower pharmacists, technicians, students, residents, and healthcare leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to drive meaningful change.
The House of Delegates also meets during Pharmacy Futures. Did you know that during this meeting there is an opportunity for members who are not delegates to comment on proposed ASHP policies? This is during the ASHP House of Delegates Open Forum. The Open Forum is an excellent opportunity for members to bring emerging issues to the attention of ASHP leaders. Discussion will be facilitated by the chair of the House of Delegates, and the session will be attended by ASHP officers, members of the Board of Directors, and ASHP staff.
Do not miss this opportunity to connect with peers, engage with thought leaders, and be at the forefront of pharmacy’s evolving landscape. Join us and be part of the future of pharmacy!
I wanted to also share with you some of the work of the section as well! Don’t have enough time to sit through a one-hour webinar during the day? Emerging Sciences Section Advisory Group and Emergency Medicine Section Advisory Group members continue to build the Recorded Pharmacist Series library that can be found on elearning.ashp.org. Recorded Pharmacist Series, or REPS for short, are quick 15–30-minute episodes that focus on specific therapeutic areas or topics and also allow you to earn continuing education. Visit elearning.ashp.org and search REPS for episodes on biomarkers, cell and gene therapy, emergency medicine topics and more in a smaller, on-demand format.
I also wanted to bring to your attention to some of the programming and resources that the section has developed in the past six months:
- Mastering Maternity Part 2 (Webinar)
- Opioid Stewardship from the Leader’s Perspective: Development and Inception (Podcast with CE)
- Weight Management in Pediatrics (Webinar)
- 2025 Emergency Medicine Clinical Debates (Live Webinar on March 26th)
- Updates to the Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Clinical Pharmacy Resources pages
As we move forward, many facets of our healthcare landscape are unknown. In these times of uncertainty and challenge, resilience and purpose define the pharmacy profession. As pharmacists, we stand at the intersection of patient care and innovation, adapting to change while remaining steadfast in our mission to improve health outcomes. The road ahead will be demanding, but our dedication to advocacy, education, and clinical excellence ensures that we continue making a difference — one patient, one clinical intervention, and one breakthrough at a time.
“The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but were they stand in times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
