Chair (2026-2027)

September 2026

Thank you for being a member of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP)!  My name is Liz Wade, and I am humbled and honored to serve as the chair of the section this year. Our section represents pharmacy practitioners from all walks of practice settings and communities, and we are grateful to be your professional home.

Whether you’re a long-standing member, or brand new to our section, I am excited to share some updates to our section’s strategic plan for 2026-2027 in support of ASHP’s new strategic plan and pillars for patient care, pharmacy workforce, technology and innovation, public and global health, and financial performance. We’ve made revisions to our section’s vision and mission statements:

Vision: Acute care pharmacy is fully integrated into the patient’s continuum of care to achieve optimal, safe, and effective patient outcomes.
Mission: This section exists to:
• Foster development of acute care practitioners as pharmacy leaders and medication safety experts
• Develop and share practical, evidence-based acute care resources and education
• Create opportunities for collaboration and engagement for members; and
• Leverage subject matter expertise to advance acute care pharmacy across the continuum of care.

Something new this year is the development of strategic objectives as a focus for the section. You may have heard that ASHP participated in a summit collaborating with APhA and NABP on Implementing Solutions 2.0. This summit focused on improving working conditions affecting the mental health and well-being of pharmacists and pharmacy personnel. You can find the full report here. We’ve turned two recommendations from the summit into strategic objective priorities for our section this year:

  • Recommend projects that prepare acute care pharmacy practitioners to practice under a standard of care model
  • Recommend projects that integrate artificial intelligence into acute care pharmacy practice

We believe both objectives will strengthen our profession’s position in our evolving regulatory and technological landscapes. To accomplish these objectives and achieve our mission, we are composed of an educational steering committee (ESC) and section advisory groups (SAGs) on medication management, medication safety, compounding practice, and small and rural hospitals. These groups are critical for bringing resources, education, and best practice recommendations to the forefront. For those of you who serve on and lead these groups, thank you for your dedication and passion for advancing pharmacy practice! If you are learning about or interested in participating in these groups and advocating for the needs of our profession, I encourage you to learn more about how to get involved.

To all members of our section, thank you for everything you do for our patients, our communities, and our pharmacy profession! On behalf of our entire SICP Executive Committee, we look forward to hearing from, meeting, and working with you this year.
