October 2023
Hello New Practitioners!
From football games to everything pumpkin spice, I hope everyone has been enjoying the fall season. Among the cool weather, one of the events I’m most excited about this season is getting to re-connect with everyone at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, CA from December 3-7! Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a regular, there’s something for everyone at Midyear:
- Save the date for Sunday, December 3, where a wealth of new practitioner-related content will be presented. Topics include career guidance, clinical practice, and much more. I also want to highlight our New Practitioner Networking Session happening the same day from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM PT as an opportunity to connect with other new practitioners just like you in a roundtable-style format.
- For new practitioners pursuing a PGY2, searching for that ideal post-residency job, or looking to transition into a new role, PPS is your go-to job fair to interview with program directors and hiring managers in-person. Check out these helpful resources on preparing for PPS, such as CV Pearls for New Practitioners Podcast and a PPS Interview Guide.
ASHP is a strong advocate for pharmacy practice advancement through policy development and interfacing with public officials, such as Congress. Every September, ASHP members gather in Bethesda, MD for Policy Week to discuss matters most pertinent to the profession and develop recommendations to present to policymakers. Look back at some of the highlights from Policy Week 2023. If you have an interest in leadership within ASHP or creating policy recommendations, strongly consider applying to one of ASHP’s Councils and Committees (including the NPF Executive Committee!). Applications are due Wednesday, November 15!
Additional opportunities to engage with ASHP and the New Practitioners Forum are to follow our Twitter/X account @ASHP_NPF and join the discussion on ASHP Connect.
I look forward to seeing you all in Anaheim soon!
Sincerely,
Alfred Awuah, PharmD, MS, BCPS
Vice Chair, ASHP New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee
