July 2025
Hi New Practitioners!
Happy summer! As my favorite season begins, another year within the New Practitioners Forum ends. To close the year out, I want to take a moment to reflect on an amazing term and express my heartfelt gratitude for our Forum members. As I often mention, our membership is what makes the New Practitioners Forum special and feel like a community where we can connect and learn from one another.
I am incredibly proud of the efforts made this year to advance the forum and service our members further. Our advisory group members had a productive year creating new practitioner resources and providing networking opportunities. Thank you to Leia Gaddis, Karissa Chow, Kaitlyn Grieves, Hannah Thornton, Julie Spangler, and Chinyere Onyirimba for serving as advisory group chairs and leading their respective groups. Below are a few of the several projects completed this year:
- Podcasts
- Continuing Education Webinars
- Education and Professional Development
- 16 Clinical Pearl Infographics Posted Across Social Media
- Networking Rx - Unlock Success with LinkedIn
- Navigate Networking: Tips for Conference Success
- Outreach and Networking
- New Practitioner Midyear Networking Session
- Spring Virtual Networking Event
- Residency Preparation Roundtable Series
The Executive Committee launched the inaugural Leadership Development Series with the goal of enhancing leadership skills through sessions facilitated by ASHP leaders. In the fall, Ashley Duty and Kellie Musch presented Saying No with Grace while Kay Yamamoto presented on career transitions for new practitioners in the spring.
ASHP Pharmacy Futures in Charlotte, North Carolina, in June was a good opportunity to reconnect with members and introduce new updates to the NPF Strategic Plan. I am excited to share these updates with you all! Our mission will be to “empower new pharmacy practitioners to connect, grow, create, and lead the future of pharmacy.” The vision is “to be the new practitioner community for practice and professional needs,” with the tagline, “fostering the future of pharmacy.” We believe these updates encompass everything great NPF has to offer and will help guide the Forum into the future. Thank you to Executive Committee members Luna Shi, Allison Gorseth, Tuyet Lien Lam, and Jacilyn McNulty for a phenomenal year. And thank you to our board liaison, Todd Nesbit, and our wonderful ASHP staff liaison, Karly Low, for their support throughout the year.
With the year ending, I also want to congratulate the PharmD Class of 2025 and officially welcome you all to the New Practitioners Forum! As you navigate these first five years of your career, rest assured knowing the forum has numerous resources to meet your new practitioners needs.
Serving as chair of the New Practitioners Forum has been one of the most gratifying experiences in my professional career thus far. From representing new practitioners on Capitol Hill to the ASHP House of Delegates, each enriching experience has provided immeasurable growth and an opportunity to refine my own leadership skills. However, my favorite part about serving in this role was getting to interact with you all. Each of you inspires me, and I am so thankful to have had this opportunity. I look forward to seeing everything you all accomplish in the future and the chance to connect with each other again!
With gratitude,
Alfred Awuah, PharmD, MS, BCPS
Chair, New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee, 2024-2025
